The flag of the association is based on the tricolor flags of original Realm Banner Black-Red-Gold. The central emblem is the black eagle on gold, within inner red and outer black borders, the latter with black "rays" emanating from it. On black field, words Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold are inscribed in gold. On gold field, words Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit (Unity and Justice and Freedom), the beginning of the national anthem and the unofficial national motto, are inscribed in black. The current design of the flag, introduced in 2013, is presented at the association website (image).

The previous variant of this flag differed in central emblem, which was placed on a gold square, conjoined with the gold field into a single shape, and had fewer details in red - eagle's tongue only, its legs being gold, just as the inner border, which was separated from central gold area by a black fimbriation. [This older variant is still in use in places, apparently until requiring replacement - example Photo #3.]
